IN dramatic circumstances, it came down to one-third of a shot to decide the winners of the annual Danny Nolan Memorial Competition at Deerpark Pitch and Putt Club in Killarney which is an annual tribute to a late great club stalwart.

Remembered: Danny Nolan

At the close of last Friday night’s event it was the team of Gearóid Cronin, Brian Moloney and Betty O’Brien that edged out Sean Kelly, David O’Donnell and Mick Long with a winning score of 31 1/3.

A memorial Mass was celebrated after the shootout with Fr Paddy O’Donoghue the celebrant and that was followed by a reception for club players, members of the Nolan family and guests.

Inaugurated in 2012 after Danny’s untimely passing in 2011, the event has proved to be a real success not just with club members but also with the many friends Danny made through the game.

Danny, from Dalton’s Avenue, served on the Deerpark committee for years and he was chairman of the club during a successful period from the mid 1990s until the mid 2000s.
