Bid to get derelict properties for social housing

The HSEowned property at the entrance to the St Finan’s Hospital site on Rock Road

Efforts should be made to acquire two derelict properties at the Rock Road entrance to the St Finan’s Hospital complex for social housing purposes, local council officials have been told.

Cllr Maura Healy-Rae has asked local authority housing staff to investigate the matter and she pointed out that one of the single-storey properties, in the ownership of the Health Service Executive, is in a complete state of disrepair.

Council officials said the property at the other side of the entrance to the former hospital is in private ownership and the owner will be contacted and briefed that there is funding available, under various schemes and grants, to help return the property to habitable use.

A qualifying condition of the repair scheme is that the property be leased to the local authority for social housing.

Cllr Healy-Rae asked officials to write to the owner of the private property as well as the HSE in an attempt to expedite the matter.
