It is a case of back to the future for Killarney Rotary Club as Barry Murphy has been elected to the position of president for the second time.

A long-time member, he previously held the chain of office in 2001-2002 and he said he was pleasantly surprised and honoured to be returned as present of the organisation in its landmark 40th year.

Barry, the owner of Murphy Print, said he is looking forward to the annual Rotary events, including the hugely successful wine and art night, afternoon tea party and the various events for young people.

“Rotary Killarney has contributed in excess of €500,000 to various charities over the years,” he said.

He said the members organise these events in an atmosphere of friendship and fun.

“We are in the process of compiling a history of the club since it was founded,” he said.

“The hope is to try and record the numerous projects the club organised. The majority of these events were charitable fundraisers, organised professionally by Rotary Killarney,” added Barry who was previously very involved in the Young Musician of the Year project.

Barry received the chain of office from outgoing president Rayla Tadjimatova at the weekly Rotary Club lunch in the Great Southern Hotel.
