Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Christopher O’Sullivan, formally opened the AIB Portrait and Young Portrait Prize exhibition this Friday and it features the shortlist of works chosen from hundreds of entries.
The display showcases contemporary portraiture from artists across the island of Ireland and Irish artists living abroad. The exhibition, which is free, will continue until July 20.
Minister O’Sullivan, TD, said artists and those who find inspiration in art have been drawn to the shores of the lakes of Killarney for centuries.
“It’s very important that the work of our artists and our cultural institutions reaches as wide an audience as possible,” he remarked.
“Killarney House provides the perfect backdrop for this beautiful artwork which can be enjoyed by communities here in Kerry through a collaboration between the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the National Gallery of Ireland. I’d like to commend all of the artists whose work is featured,” Minister O’Sullivan said.
