Irish Water and Kerry County Council have said the vast majority of the 4,000 customers affected with a major break in their water supply overnight should have their service returned by now.
There may, however, be intermittent restrictions required in some areas over the coming days as the network continues to recover and reservoir levels recover.
Homes and businesses were severely hit following a big burst on a water main from the Lough Guitane treatment plant to Sheheree Reservoir on the central regional water supply scheme.
This network supplies approximately 60,000 customers in the greater Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland, Castlemaine areas and also most of East Kerry.
While confirming that most customers have had their supply fully restored, Irish Water has reminded customers to continue to conserve water.
“The combination of the fantastic weather and the burst water main means the water supply is very low. We must all do our part in trying to help conserve water where we can,” a spokesman said.
Irish Water has advised on a number of ways to reduce water usage during the hot weather, including:
- Avoid power washing and keep the garden hose in the shed
- Check for leaks on outdoor taps or troughs as these can lead to large losses of treated water
- Remember that paddling pools and swimming pools can use huge volumes of water so consider reusing the water for the garden or cleaning the car
- Report any visible leaks on the public network to Irish Water at water.ie or call 1800-278278.
- Where householders experience very low flow or pressure, lower than neighbouring properties, they may have a service pipe leak. Irish Water can help with the location and repair of external leaks. Details at water.ie or call 1800-278-278.
