John Drummey: more pride needed

TRALEE is making a bold bid to follow in Killarney’s footsteps in the national Tidy Towns awards.

The capital town is anxious to get into contention for the prestigious overall award which Killarney won in 2011.

The Tralee Chamber Alliance has now launched a new initiative along the lines of the Killarney Looking Good competition which will reward local businesses in a number of categories, including best floral display, best new paintwork, best business premises and best shop window.

The new monthly business awards scheme is aimed at retaining Tralee’s gold medal status and making a real challenge for the top prize.

Tralee Chamber Alliance President, John Drummey, said: “The entire business community in the town needs to show more pride in our town and play a bigger role in supporting the volunteers’ efforts with a view to winning the national Tidy Towns competition.”

He added: “We all need to work on this throughout the entire year rather than waiting until the weather improves or before an imminent visit from the Tidy Towns judges.”
