The Kerry branch of the Green Party launched its general election campaign in Tralee on Saturday night where candidate Cleo Murphy was surrounded by friends, family and party colleagues in Roundy’s Bar for the launch.

She expressed her desire to see the Greens back in government after the next election and to be among the TDs elected.

“It is essential that we get Greens back into government,” she told the gathering.

“Emissions came down 6.8% last year. We’re getting there. My biggest fear now is that the good done by Greens will be undone if we’re not back in government,” Ms Murphy said.

She said she can see no reason why Kerry shouldn’t be represented on the Green frontbench.

“Anything can happen in politics and everything is wide open. We need to put our shoulders to the wheel of the campaign now,” she remarked.

Branch chairperson Anne-Marie Fuller reminded the gathering that the Green Party in Kerry went from fielding three local election candidates in 2019 to six candidates in the local elections earlier this year.

She urged the gathering get behind the general election campaign for Cleo Murphy.

The Kenmare woman, a former journalist, previously contested the 2020 general election when she secured 5.3 per cent of the first preference vote.
