Dream come true: Anthony and Roisín enjoying their stroll in Washington on Father’s Day

AFTER a very difficult first month of treatment, which left him exhausted and bed-bound for up to 22 hours a day, as he continues his long battle with Lyme disease, Killarney man Anthony Morris was thrilled that his Father’s Day wish came true and he was strong enough to enjoy a short stroll with his young daughter.

The former Kerry footballer is spending nine months undergoing specialist antibiotic treatment at the Jemsek Clinic in Washington with his partner, Margaret, and their eight-year-old daughter, Roisín, constantly by his side.

The IV and oral treatment, administered at the clinic every second day, has been taking its toll and left him feeling “totally shattered” but he knows it will be worth it in the long term.

“It has been tough going but I’m getting to grips with it now,” Anthony said.

The Spa, Killarney man had spent 10 straight days in bed, sleeping for all but two hours a day, as he struggled with fatigue and balance problems. But he set himself a goal and he was hell-bent on achieving it.

“I was really determined to get out for a short walk with my beautiful daughter Roisín for Father’s Day. She was so so happy,” Anthony said.

He thanked all those who have organised and supported fundraising events at home to help offset some of the enormous costs of the treatment in the US, with huge medical bills and accommodation and living costs to contend with.
