
ANOTHER 36 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Kerry bringing te total number of infections in the county the past 14 days to 818.
Nationally today, there have been 77 more coronavirus-related deaths, all but one of which occurred this month.
The median age of those who died is 84 years and the age range of victims is from 43 to 98 years.
There have now been 2,947 Covid-19 related fatalities since the outbreak began last March.
Senior public health officials have also reported an additional 1,910 cases of Covid-19 which brings the total number of known cases to 186,184.
Of today’s cases, 1,016 are female and 887 are male and 57 per cent of the confirmed cases involve people under the age of 45.
710 of today’s cases are in Dublin, 150 in Cork, 103 in Meath, 102 in Limerick and 86 in Louth with the remaining 759 cases spread across all other counties, including the 36 in Kerry.
There are 1,892 people with the coronavirus being treated in hospital this evening with 217 in intensive care units.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, said through the solidarity shown by families and communities across the country in recent weeks, Ireland is beginning to flatten the curve of Covid-19 infection.
“Each individual effort to follow the public health advice is making an impact but we can only continue this positive trend and drive down incidence in the community by continuing to stay at home and avoid meeting or mixing with others in our social circle,” he said.
Dr Holohan added that any close family gatherings, such as birthdays or funerals, can be “super-spreader” events.
