IT wasn’t exactly a case of moo-ving the goalposts but one wayward bovine certainly made its mark when it wandered on to the playing field during one of the big domestic GAA games of the season.
Supporters found it very amoo-sing when the animal hoofed it onto the pitch during the Barrett Cup final clash between Beaufort and St Pat’s of Blennerville at Farranfore on Saturday evening.
The steaks were high when Beaufort attempted to wipe out St Pat’s slender two-point lead in the closing stages of the game.
Beaufort defender Garry Tangney could scarcely believe his eyes when he saw the cow running alongside him at full pace as he set up a key attack.
“I heard people on the sideline shouting ‘cow, cow’ and I didn’t know what was happening.
“I thought they were calling me a cow until I turned around and saw it running flat out across the pitch,” he told KillarneyToday.com.
The animal wandered in from a nearby farm and the game was held up for five minutes while the cow was brought under control until its owner got there.
When the game resumed, St Pat’s held on to their two-point lead and although the 2-8 to 2-6 win sparked great celebrations in Blennerville, they were modest in victory and could never be accused of milking the situation.
