Amy joins the VIPs at Ring cycle start

A LITTLE girl with a big heart put thousands of cyclists under starter’s orders bright and early this morning when she officially launched the Ring of Kerry charity cycle.

Amy O’Connor joined the new Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher, Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne, Killarney Parish Administrator, Fr Kieran O’Brien, her GAA hero Colm Cooper and Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan at the start on Mission Road as the biggest fundraiser of the year officially got underway.

No stranger to the limelight, Amy had another big day in Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day when Dr Crokes captain, Johnny Buckley, called her to hold the Andy Merrigan Cup aloft in what was one of those very special moments that can bring the country to a standstill.

10-year-old Amy, from Whitebridge Manor, has been battling with cancer for well over a year but she never complains and despite her gruelling treatment schedule in Crumlin, she has maintained a hugely positive attitude and is always in great form.
