An action-packed fair day, held in memory of a hugely popular local man, will take place in Castlemaine on Sunday, October 15.
Locals will gather to remember the late John O’Donoghue who resided in the heart of the village and was known and liked by all.

He was born on 21st January 1965 which, ironically, happened to coincide with a staging of the old Castlemaine Fair Day so the committee said it felt appropriate to mark John’s life-long love of attending fairs and being an integral part of the farming community by bringing back the event in his honour.
It celebrates old traditions, customs and beliefs that were very dear to John.
The occasion will raise funds for the palliative care unit in University Hospital Kerry and the Castlemaine Events Committee.
After a very successful revival of the old fair day in Castlemaine in 2021, the community in Castlemaine and surrounding areas have helped raise an incredible €59,660 for the two chosen beneficiaries.
The care, skill, empathy and expertise of the wonderful professionals and the facilities in palliative care are second to none and will never be forgotten by John’s family.

This year’s fair day event will include an amusement funfair and children’s entertainment, live music, a pet show and an auction by members of the local Mid Kerry Mart at 1.00pm in Griffin’s car park.
Donations of timber, hampers, antiques and animal would be greatly appreciated and they can be registered from 10.00am that day or contact Cathy on 087-6287076in advance.
