Aislinn Desmond: The new Kerry skipper

ANOTHER Rathmore footballer will have the honour of leading Kerry into action for 2021, KillarneyToday.com can confirm.

Just days after it was confirmed that Paul Murphy will skipper the senior footballers for the league and championship campaign, it has now been confirmed that Aislinn Desmond has been selected to captain the Kerry senior ladies in the year ahead.

An outstanding defender, Aislinn (30) takes over from Anna Galvin of Southern Gaels and she is eagerly looking forward to the task at hand.

An All-Star recipient in 2015, she was selected by the Rathmore club following their triumph in the 2020 Senior County Championship final against Southern Gaels.

Aislinn, a top class athlete who won several gold medals in the 100m in the Community Games started played with her club at the age of seven when her father, Denis, was trainer of the team.

A graduate from UL and now working in finance, she played with Kerry from under 14 level up and she made her senior inter-county debit against Dublin in 2009, going on to establish herself as one of the best defenders in ladies’ football.
