ONE of the best Kerry footballers of her generation has announced her decision to put the green and gold jersey back on the peg.

Aislinn Desmond from Rathmore established a reputation as a stylish defender whose skill, stamina and ability to read the game led to her being considered one of the finest inter-county footballers of the modern era.

Aislinn remarked: “After 12 wonderful years playing with Kerry, I have decided that now is the right time to announce my retirement from inter-county football. It was a huge honour for me to wear the Kerry jersey.”

“We wish her the very best in the future,” the organisation said.

Rathmore GAA congratulated Aislinn on a wonderful playing career and officials said they look forward to her continuing to wear the red and white of the club for many years to come.

Aislinn, who first played for Kerry against Dublin in 2009, captained Kerry last year, won an All-Star award in 2015.

She won Munster Championship medals in 2013, 2015 and 2017 and she made both the Division 1 and Division 2 Teams of the Year.
