THE official opening of the Rathmore Garden of Remembrance will take place at Ard Mhuire on this Sunday following Mass at 12.15pm.
There will be a blessing of the garden by Parish Priest Pat O’Donnell and the guest speaker will be Rathmore man Aidan O’Connor, writer and producer of Patrick – a top class musical drama based on the life and death of Rathmore republican Patrick O’Connor.

A story of 1916, the raising of the tricolor by Cpl Breda O’Sullivan, the reading of 1916 Proclamation by primary school students and music will also feature. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Lotto: Shauna and Michelle McCarthy, Leam, Gneeveguilla have won the €14,800 lotto jackpot in the Gneeveguilla Athletic Club draw. The seller of the winning ticket was Aeneas O’Leary who receives €150.
Hallowe’en: Gneeveguilla GAA Hallowe’en fancy dress party is on October 30 in the Club Bar. There will be live music on the night and spot prizes.

Comhaltas: A celebration of all of Sliabh Luachra Comhaltas achievements during the year, especially the gold and silver winners at the All-Ireland Fleadh, will take place in Teach Fáilte on Saturday at 9.00pm. Refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome. The AGM of Sliabh Luachra Comhaltas branch will take place on Wednesday October 19 at 9.00pm. New members always welcome.

Ceremonies: The dates for First Communion services in the parish are as follows: Knocknagree (April 29), Shrone (May 6), Rathmore (May 20), Gneeveguilla (May 27). Confirmation day will be Tuesday, February 21 at 3.30pm in Rathmore.

Blitz: The Tommy Kelliher under 10 blitz in Rathbeg saw Gneeveguilla, Glenflesk, Kenmare, Spa and Rathmore taking part. It was a great day for these young footballers. The Shield Final saw Rathmore (white team) and Glenflesk do battle and on this occasion Glenflesk emerged as winners. The Cup Final saw Rathmore (red team) and Spa take to the pitch for a very exciting and close game. At full time the sides were level so on to extra time and Rathmore managed to get the vital winning score.

Recovery: We wish a speedy recovery to Rathmore senior GAA team manager Denis Moynihan who is recovering from illness.
Unlucky: Hard luck to Rathmore’s seniors who lost out by a single point on Sunday last in semi-final of county championship against Kenmare District. It was a mighty effort huge and thank you to all the Rathmore players and management who have given so much of themselves for our enjoyment and pride.
We hope the injured and unwell will recover soon to line out for club and parish. There will be many days ahead to enjoy, even if the result was not what we wanted last Sunday last.

Mission: Boherbue Parish will host a Mission commencing on Saturday at 7.30pm Mass and it will continue through the week. The closing Mass will be at 11.00am on Sunday, October 23. Mass at 7.00am on Monday Wednesday Friday and at 10.00am on Tuesday and Thursday.

Bingo: Holy Family National School parents will hold a bingo night in Rathmore Community Centre on Saturday at 7.30pm with valuable prizes to be won

River: Cllr Niall Kelleher has announced that Ballycullan river has been cleared out around the bridge at Ballycullane, on the Gneeveguilla to Rathmore road. This is welcome news for the people in the area that have been flooded and trapped in their homes in the recent past,.
Surgery: Rathmore Community Council has confirmed that Dr Christine Walsh- McCarthy will hold a surgery at the rear of St Joseph’s Day Care Centre, Rathmore on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays  For an appointment please

Bend: Cllr John Sheahan has sent an update on proposed works at Mossie’s Bend on the N72 between Barraduff and Rathmore. The contract has been awarded to MEIC Ltd, a Galway engineering company. Works to remove trees, widen the verges and erect a new crash barrier are scheduled to commence next Monday.

Market: The Boherbue Christmas Market will be held on Sunday, November 20 at 2.00pm in The Hall. Anyone requiring a stall should contract Philomena on 029-76003.

Wedding: Congratulations to Laura McCarthy, Ballycullane and Kevin Donnelly, Gneeveguilla who were married on Saturday last in St Joseph’s Church, Rathmore.

Deaths: Sympathy is extended to the families of Patrick O’Connor, Lisnanoul, Castlemaine and Patrick Joseph Buckley, Millstreet and Shrone, who passed away recently.

Quiz: A table quiz and auction fundraiser has been planned to help in a charity initiative planned by Deputy Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelliher, and Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce President Kate O’Leary who will spend a night sleeping out to help raise funds and awareness of the homelessness crisis that is sweeping the country. Involvement is part of Focus Ireland campaign  which will see prominent business interests and public representative sleeping out, in either Cork or Dublin, on October 21.
They have both set a target  of raising at least €5,000 for the cause and, to help them achieve that goal, they will host a table quiz in The Laurels, Killarney on Wednesday, October 19.
The entry fee is €50 for a table of five and the event will commence at 8.00pm. Some fantastic prizes will be won on the night and there will also be super auction at which a number of valuable and impressive prizes will come under the auctioneer’s gravel.

Ladies: The Under 12 East Kerry Division 2 Shield Plate final finished Rathmore 2-5 Laune Rangers 4-9. A big thank you to the management of this team throughout the year.
