Rathmore and Gneeveguilla News
Compiled by Michael O’Mahony
JOURNALIST Aidan O’Connor will be making the news instead of reporting it when he will be afforded the VIP treatment in his native Rathmore for the St Patrick’s Day parade.
To ensure it doesn’t clash with parades in other locations, Rathmore will hold its pageant on Sunday, March 12 and Aidan has been booked to act as grand marshal.
He is being recognised for his role in bringing the smash hit musical drama, Patrick, to the stage in Rathmore and Killarney, bringing the story of a local man’s part in the 1916 Rising to a whole new audience.
The seventh annual parade will get underway at 2.00pm and there will be several prizes up for grabs, including the best overall float, the best commercial entry, best window display, best agricultural float, best group, best dressed buggy or pram, best dressed pet and the best vintage vehicle. No street traders will be allowed.
Cinderella: The children of Rathmore parish will present Cinderella at Rathmore Community Centre on Saturday next at 7.30pm and again on Sunday at 3.00pm.
Admission is €10 for adults and €5 for children. Proceeds will go to the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl Rathmore branch. For further details and tickets contact Lorrane on (086) 3481464 or Mag on (087) 9498344.
