TWO new route options have been added for those planning to compete in the Run Killarney spectacular on Saturday, October 3.

The world’s biggest adventure race, planned for Ireland’s adventure capital, will attract 2,500 outdoor enthusiasts anxious to test their skill and stamina in the attraction voted Ireland’s best outdoor event in 2014.

The announcement of a new 48km route and a 50km route have created great excitement and it will ensure that every skill level is catered for on the day. There are now five different route options to suit all levels of fitness with participants being invited to choose from 27km, 48km, 50km, 60km and 70km.

This one-day adventure race involves competitors running, cycling and kayaking along rugged landscapes and through the breath-taking scenery of Killarney National Park.

The new challenging 50km semi-pro route will encompass the Gap of Dunloe, the Black Valley and Muckross Lake and the competitors will ascend the world famous Torc Waterfall steps while enjoying panoramic views across the entire park.

The 48km dual route is similar to the 50km route but without the kayaking. Race orgainser Oliver Kirwan remarked: “We wanted to make our adventure race as inclusive as possible and the new 48km dual route allows people who are daunted by the kayak stage to take part.”

After the challenging adventure, competitors and spectators can enjoy the festival atmosphere lined up which will include music, food, a children’s adventure race and a bumper after party in Killarney.

“There is guaranteed fun for all the family and every competitor will receive a customised cycle jersey and medal,” said Oliver of Killarney based event management company Elite Events.
