A feast of top quality football and a real party atmosphere has been lined up for Killarney on Saturday, July 27 with the inaugural Killarney Celtic FC seven-a-side summer soccer tournament.

Several top teams from throughout Munster will travel to Celtic Park – home of the Kerry league and cup holders – to showcase their skills with separate competitions for men and women’s teams and a hugely competitive event guaranteed.

The competitions will provide 12-hours of non-stop action and the day will be a real family occasion with activities lined up to keep all ages occupied.

The kick-off will be at 9am and the games will continue right through until that evening with the finals in the ladies and men’s cup and shield competitions bringing the on-field action to a climax.

The carnival atmosphere will be greatly enhanced by a giant marquee with professional caterers and a full bar and there will be live entertainment on site throughout the day.

DJs Mark Moynihan and Jack Enright will be spinning the discs from 2-4pm and 4-7pm respectively before lively local trad band, Hacksaw Kéilí, take to the stage at 7 o’clock.

In addition to the soccer action and the live music, there will be a children’s play area all through the day and plenty of novelties to keep the younger generation busy.

Celtic FC from Clare, Cork sides Leeds AFC, Ringmahon Rangers and Avondale United, Limerick’s Abbeyfeale United, St Brendan’s Park and Dynamos will travel from Tralee, Avenue United from Ennis, Nenagh AFC, Killorglin FC, Mastergeeha FC, Killarney Athletic and, of course, the hosts Killarney Celtic with the club fresh from completing an unprecedented si Kerry league and cup doubles in a row.

The women’s sides will include Killarney Celtic, Clonakilty United, Quarry Park Rangers, Inter Kenmare, Cork sides Drinagh Rangers, Leeside United and Wilton United and LB Rovers from Lisselton.

There is a great incentive for teams to give it their all with €1,000 on offer for the men’s cup winners and €500 for the women’s champions.

There will be ample parking in the vicinity of Celtic Park on the day and the all-inclusive admission fee is just €10.

“The event promises to be a real feast of football and a fabulous family day out,” said Celtic official Paul Sherry.

“We have been thinking about hosting an event of this magnitude for some time and we are delighted that clubs from all over Munster have expressed an interest in taking part,” he added.
