IN what could be described as a generation game like no other, a Killarney father and son not only lined out for the same soccer team last weekend but they both found the net.
Veteran Killarney Celtic star Pat O’Neill lined out for the club’s Division 2B team against Killorglin AFC and he was delighted to get on the scoresheet.
And he was even more thrilled when his talented 16-year-old son, Luke, also hit the target to make it a truly memorable double for the sports-mad O’Neill family.

It is believed to be the first time a father and son both scored in a competitive Kerry District League game and the O’Neill duo were certainly the toast of Celtic Park after their remarkable feat.
Unfortunately, despite their great goalscoring exploits, Pat and Luke finished on the losing side as Killorglin emerged 4-2 victors but, still, it is a game that will be remembered by the dynamic father and son.
Luke has a very bright future in store on the soccer fields of Kerry as he sets out to emulate the achievements of his dad who has been one of the outstanding and most committed performers in the game in the county for several years.
