THE spread of Covid-19 continues to remain under control in Kerry for now with less than five additional cases reported in the county this Friday.
The number of newly diagnosed positive cases in the county didn’t exceed five all week – there was no case at all on Wednesday – and Kerry remains at the very bottom of the 14-day incidence rate nationally.
The Health Protection Surveillance Centre was today informed of 28 further deaths and 763 new cases with 27 of the fatalities occurring this month and one dating back to January.
There have now been 4,107 Covid-19 related deaths in the Republic of Ireland with 213,400 known positive cases.
Early this morning, 754 patients were in hospital due to coronavirus complications with 151 in intensive care. A total of 46 additional patients suffering from the virus have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours.
Of the cases notified today 388 are female, 370 are male and 72 per cent are under 45 years of age. The median age of those affected is 30.
251 of the newly diagnosed cases are in Dublin, 84 in Galway, 57 in Kildare, 47 in Limerick and 42 in Waterford with the remaining 282 cases spread across all other counties.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer with the Department of Health, Dr Ronan Glynn, warned: “Incidence remains high and we cannot drop our guard”.
He added: “Better days are in sight. People continue to respond to public health advice and act in solidarity with one another”.
