GLENBEIGH Glencar GAA Club has led the tributes to former star player and All-Ireland winning Kerry footballer Jerry O’Riordan who has passed away at his home in Kilmallock, Co Limerick.
During his illustrious playing career, he gave outstanding service to the club and to the county at all grades.
Jerry, originally from Lettir West in Glenbeigh, played 17 National League games and four senior championship games for Kerry between 1962 and 1965 and won Munster and All-Ireland medals in 1962 when he lined out at wing forward although midfield was his usual position.
Kerry overcame a strong challenge from Roscommon in that final, eventually winning 1-12 to 1-6, and Jerry lined out alongside household names like Mick O’Connell Tom Long, Sean Óg Sheehy, Johnny Culloty, Seamus Murphy, Tim ‘Tiger’ Lyons and his clubmate Jimmy Lucey.
He won Mid Kerry Championships with his club in 1956, 1964, 1974 and 1975 as well as a Kerry Senior Football Championship with Mid Kerry in 1967.
In a tribute on social media, the Glenbeigh-Glencar club said although Jerry lived and worked in Limerick, he never forgot his home place and was always available to serve his club and county.

Predeceased by his wife Bridie, Jerry is survived by his family, John, Jerome, Eileen (Collins), Maura (Schott) and Bríd, daughter-in-law Valerie, sons-in-law Kieran and Cedric, grandchildren Laura, Gerry, Jean, Sean, Caitlin, Aoife, Eoin and Julie, brothers Batt and Matt, and many other relatives and friends.
