ALL creatures great and small – many of them terrifying – will be roaming the roads around Kilcummin next Sunday for the now annual Spooky Sprint family fun run.
Commencing at 12 noon, the petrifying prelude to Halloween is now in its third year and it is organised in association with Kilcummin National School Parents’ Association. Funds raised on the day will go to the school as well as to the Fuchsia Ward in St Columbanus Community Hospital where expert care is provided for people with dementia.
Maura Flynn, Director of Killarney Community Hospital, remarked: “We are so delighted to be chosen as a beneficiary of this exciting event. We will be putting the funds raised to good use and the money will be applied to enhance our facility”.
School Parents’ Association Chairperson, Derek O’Leary, said it’s a great opportunity for everyone to dust off their costumes before Halloween night.
“The fundraising part of the day is really important and it is great the event will be supporting two organisations this year,” he said.
“We also want to make sure that it’s a great family event where everyone can really enjoy all aspects of the Halloween season, so we’re encouraging everyone, children and adults, to come out in costume and make the most of the day”.
In addition to a best dressed costume competition, there will also be a best carved pumpkin contest and organiser Ann Marie O’Leary said she hopes all the boys and girls will arrive with their pumpkins carved creatively.
Registration for the fun run will commence at 11.30am in Kilcummin Recreational Hall which is located just across the road from Kilcummin Church where everyone is welcome. There will be fun and games, refreshments, home baking, treats, face painting, a raffle and spot prizes as part of the event.
To date the event has raised €3,500 and its hoped that this year will be just as successful as previous years.
