SOME political campaigners are prepared to go to any length – or any height – to maximise their vote with an election rapidly approaching.
And while one Kerry candidate has previously been known to have had campaign posters erected at the summit of Carrauntoohil, in terms of impact not even that can match the dizzy heights reached by supporters of Killarney councillor Brendan Cronin in recent days.
A plentiful supply of his canvass cards might be popping through letterboxes from Ballyhar to Ballyspillane but they have been rather scarce at the top of the Empire State Building – until now that it.
His son Kevin – a teacher in Killarney’s St Brendan’s College – is currently enjoying a mid-term break in New York with a group of friends.
And they couldn’t let the occasion pass with a little campaigning on the roof of the 102-storey skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan.
As Kevin and his pal Damian Clifford posed for this snapshot from a height 1,250 feet, heavy snow started to fall and it prevented them from getting a good backdrop of the Big Apple skyline.
Whether Damian is pointing to the snow or pledging his number one vote to Brendan Cronin remains to be confirmed but it just goes to prove that, in politics, all the world’s a stage and whatever about constituency boundaries, when it comes to winning votes, the sky’s the limit.
