IT’S a case of calm before the storm in Killorglin today as the town braces itself for the annual influx of tens of thousands of visitors for the three-day knees-up that is Puck Fair.
And it’s significantly quieter and less colourful in Killarney as a result as Bird’s Amusements have rolled out of town, after a summer stay, to set up shop in the town by the Laune.
Dancing With The Stars winner Jake Carter will top the entertainment bill at this year’s Puck, taking to the stage on Sunday night, and also appearing will be the excellent Swing Cats on Friday and The Cosmic Funk Band on Saturday with a spectacular midnight fireworks display bringing the festival to a close after the Jake Carter performance.
The traditional horse fair will get underway at Evans Field at 6,00am on Friday, with the cattle fair on Langford Street on Saturday. Other popular events planned this year include dance workshops, puppet shows, circus workshops, live street entertainment, Disney characters and fun and games at every corner.
The coronation parade will wind its way through the streets from 5.30pm on Friday before Queen of Puck, 12-year-old Ella Foley from Caragh Lake, will have the honour of crowning King Puck who will be master of all he surveys from the Puck Stand for three particularly lively days and nights
