A MAJOR search operation is underway in Killarney this evening for a man who has been reported missing by his family.
Gardai were alerted earlier today after the man’s car was found at the side of a road and his relatives became concerned for his safety.
Gardai, the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, Civil Defence and the Killarney Water Search and Recovery Unit were all called into action and the ongoing search is concentrated on an area of dense woodland off the Mill Road, which borders the River Flesk.
An Irish Coastguard search and rescue helicopter has joined the search within the last hour and motorists are advised that there are traffic restrictions in place on the road leading from Whitebridge to Mill Road.
