Oliver to give the Shindig a Twist

Ready for the Shindig: Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher (centre) with St Patrick’s Festival committee members Paul Sherry, Kevin O’Sullivan, Bernadette Randles and David Rae

SATIRE superstar Oliver Callan has several of Kerry’s politicians in his sights and he is likely to let loose with both barrels when he takes centre stage at the eagerly-awaited Mayor’s Charity Shindig next Sunday night.

Killarney will experience a St Patrick’s weekend celebration the likes of which it has never seen before thanks to the town’s first citizen, Cllr Niall Kelleher, who will host a major night of top-notch entertainment in the INEC to raise funds for two very worthy causes.

Cllr Kelleher is reviving the tradition of holding a mayor’s fundraising ball on March 18 but this year, given its immediate proximity to the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, it is to be known as the Mayor’s Charity Shindig.

All funds raised on the evening will be divided between two very worthy local causes – the Kerry Parents and Friends Buy a Bus Campaign and the Social Action Group in Rathmore – and there will be a bumper turnout for a very special community celebration.

Oliver Callan, one of the funniest and most popular comedians in the country, will be the VIP master of ceremonies and he will also engage the attendance with his brilliant, no-holds-barred rafter dinner outine.

The Shindig will include a pre-dinner drinks reception, a sumptuous banquet, after-dinner entertainment, a charity auction, a super raffle and dancing to big band sounds of The Kelts until the early hours. The dress code will be shirt and tie – as opposed to black tie – so formal dress suits will not be required.

“As Mayor of Killarney, I am delighted to be in a position to organise an event that will help good causes and I know the people of the greater Killarney Municipal District, and beyond, will be only too happy to offer their support and, in the process, have a night to remember,” Mayor Kelleher said.

Tickets for the big event are €65.00 each – or tables of 10 for €600 – and the fun will get underway at 7.30pm.

Tickets are still available from Killarney Town Hall, Rathmore Social Action Group, Kerry Parents and Friends, Rathmore Post Office, Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce and Cllr Niall Kelleher’s Offices in the Courtyard, Fairhill.
