Snow way we’re playing in that

Frozen: a snapshot of the pitch posted on social media by Inniskeen Grattans GAA Club

DEDICATED Kerry supporters who made the long journey to Monaghan for the NFL double header involving the senior men and the ladies have to make the long journey home today without seeing any action.

Both Kerry v Monaghan games were called off following two pitch inspections, the first at 9.00am and the second two hours later.

It was decided that the pitch was playable following the first inspection but conditions deteriorated in the two hours that followed.

There was a significant fall of snow in Inniskeen where the games were due to be played and officers of Inniskeen Grattans GAA Club and match day officials opted to abandon plans due to the icy and potentially dangerous pitch.

The Kerry GAA posted a message on its website confirming that the games had been cancelled at 11.40am today – 20 minutes before the ladies’ game was due to commence – and a spokesperson aid the fixtures will be rescheduled on Monday. It involved an 800km round trip for the disappointed fans who faced a journey home of over four and a half hours.

A bus carrying members of the Kerry Supporters’ Club had travelled to Monaghan on Saturday with fans booked into the Hillgrove Hotel while several supporters who set out on the journey early on Sunday morning turned back on route when they heard the games had been abandoned.
