Special delivery all the way from Limerick

Kayleigh had room to spare in her suitcase

WHEN Rose of Tralee organisers asked this year’s 64 contestants to send them a snapshot as they set out on their exciting individual journeys to Tralee, the response was as enthusiastic as had been expected.

Roses from all parts of the globe gladly shared images with showed them in a variety of poses in airport terminals and departure lounges, with airline staff and at the luggage check-in desk but nobody expected the response received from game-for-a-laugh Limerick Rose, Kayleigh Maher.

The fact that she didn’t have far to travel meant that the 24-year-old secondary school English teacher had more time on her hands to plan her snapshot and it certainly raised a giggle when it arrived in the festival’s social media inbox.

Kaleigh Maher: game for a laugh

Kayleigh, from the small parish of Kilcornan, went to the trouble of packing herself into a suitcase for the journey to the festival and, luckily for her, her slight frame ensured it was a mission accomplished.

“Safe journey Kayleigh,” the Rose committee replied, “we’ll keep a look out for you – just in case”.

When she’s not squeezing herself into suitcases, the Limerick representative is a real outdoor enthusiast and she enjoys nothing more than climbing mountains, scaling climbing walls, walking through streams and “falling into dykes”.
