SIOBHAN BUSTIN Siobháin works as the preschool leader at Bebe Montessori in Killarney. She is also currently studying in Mary Immaculate College to become an inclusion coordinator, as inclusion of those with additional needs is an area close to her heart. The 24-year-old from Killarney has been heavily involved with Killarney Musical Society, both on and off stage. She has played a variety of roles and this year she became the society treasurer.
BREDA O’MAHONY Breda, 27, hails from Rathmore and is working as a lecturer in St Angela’s College, Sligo, having previously been a post-primary teacher in Dublin. She enjoys travelling and her escapades includded volunteering in Nepal and Ethiopia. Breda has completed a number of half marathons, the Sea to Summit adventure race and is participating in this year’s Ring of Kerry cycle.
KATIE LUCEY Katie is a primary school teacher with a Bachelor of Education from Mary Immaculate College and a Master of Arts in Irish Traditional Music Performance from UL. Katie currently teaches senior infants Co Kildare. The 26-year-old from Listowel has a huge interest in Irish music and won three All-Ireland titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
KATIE GALVIN Katie is a 26-year-old Nurse, working in University Hospital Kerry. Having lived in America and Australia, she has settled back to her native Moyvane and is very involved in her local community. Katie is an avid thespian and has acted in, directed and penned amateur dramas. She had a small role in the film Glassland with Jack Reynor and Toni Collette and her dream is to one day, be on stage in the Abbey Theatre
KATIE SUGRUE Katie is a first year student in Business Studies in IT Tralee and she works part time in Crag Cave as a tour guide. The 20-year-old from Knocknagoshel has been a member of Scartaglin GAA club for the last seven years and she also participates in her local boxing club Sliabh Luachra. She has been involved in many mental health workshops through out the years
ALANNAH KISSANE Alannah Kissane is a student teacher in Mary Immaculate College Thurles campus, studying a BA in education in Irish and business. She is 19 and has a very keen interest in Irish music and dance and is a music teacher and volunteers with Lixnaw Comhaltas. Recently, she has been selected to be part of Comhaltas Traditional Youth Orchestra of Ireland. She is also a member of a three-piece traditional band called Léarscáil and plays at weddings and other occasions.
JANICE HEALY Janice studied Hotel Management in Cork and now works in the Castlerosse Hotel., Killarney as Sales and Marketing Executive. She has a passion for working with people and loves to promote Kerry as a holiday destination. The 27-year-old loves to travel and explore new cultures. She also has a keen interest in photography, music and returning home to help on the family farm. GAA is a big part of her life, she loves to support Kerry and her local club Tuosist.
AMY LYNCH Amy Lynch is a 23-year-old with Down syndrome who is in her third year in the Institute of Technology Tralee in a skills for life course.This includes art, cookery, gym work and circuits. When she was younger, Amy, was involved in ballet, stage school has a great passion for music and dance. She is a huge fan of Nathan Carter and has seen him play in the INEC in Killarney. She was also involved in the Special Olympics.
STACEY O’LEARY Stacey, from Kilcummin, is a Home Economics and Business teacher has a strong passion for lifelong learning. She has recently graduated from U.C.C with a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership. She loves promoting local fashion designers and having been selected in the style stakes at Galway Races and the Dubai World Cup, she brought local design to the world stage. She will cycle the Ring of Kerry in aid of Recovery Haven.
EMMA O’GORMAN A Tralee native, the 18-year-old student is studying beauty therapy in the Kerry College of Further Education with a focus on studying massage in her second year. She is now a qualified beauty and complementary therapist. Emma has an interest in history and current affairs and describes herself as smart, witty and very loving
LISA ENGEL Raised in Dingle and now living in Fossa, Lisa is a 26-year-old mum-of-two and co-owner of Fossa hair and beauty salon in Killarney. Her passions are family and fashion. She is currently a style advisor in Dorothy Perkins and enjoys designing jewellery, planning to launch her own brand later this year. In her spare time she enjoys walking with her two children Ella and Holly.
REBECCA STRYKER Rebecca is currently a student in UCC studying to become a Music and Geography teacher.The 19-year-old from Knocknagoshel comes from a musical background, which influences her passion for both singing and playing. She also enjoys nature and keeping active and has just returned from a geography excursion in Italy which included a hike up the Alps.
THE identity of the 2017 Kerry Rose, who will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent her county at the flagship festival and appear alongside host Daithí Ó Sé before hundreds of thousands of viewers on live television, will be known this Friday night.
A total of 24 young ladies, representing local businesses or community organisations, will take to the stage in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee to vie for the sought-after title.
Killarney woman Danielle O’Sullivan will be on standby to hand over the sash she has worn with style over the past 12 months.
The new Kerry Rose will be revealed before midnight and, as usual, there is no shortage of Killarney contestants in the running for the title.
