Mary T is crowned Lily of Killarney

GLAMOROUS Mary T Moynihan was last night crowned Lily of Killarney at a gala selection event in the Gleneagle Hotel.

29 contestants sought the honour but it was 24-year-old Mary T, from Farranfore, who most impressed the judges, Síle Seoige, former Limerick Rose of Tralee, Dawn Ryan, and Sean Neville.

The new Lily is a hairdresser who also works in Jimmy Brien’s Bar who sponsored her on the night.

The ladies’ committee of Spa GAA Club hosted the event for the 44th year and the guest presenter at the selection gala in the Gleneagle Hotel was TV celebrity Síle Seoige.

Sponsored by Killarney Credit Union with the Killarney Outlook as media sponsor, the contestants represented various businesses in the greater Killarney area and they were interviewed on stage before the capacity attendance.

Reigning Lily Eve O’Donoghue, a 24-year-old nurse from Glenflesk, was on hand to hand over the sash and the Healy-Cronin perpetual trophy to her successor.

Mary T also received a €500 cash prize, sponsored by Tricel, a trip to the Killarney-London Reunion and several other gifts.

All the contestants received a special cut glass commemorative trophy on the night. The contest was organised by the Spa GAA Club ladies’ committee, chaired by Geraldine O’Neill, and comprising Sheila Curtin, Margaruite Brosnan, Marie O’Keeffe, Sheila Cronin, Denise Gleeson, Breda Hickey, Claire O’Mahony and Louise O’Sullivan.
