ORNA Cleary-O’Shea will set quite a record tonight when she takes to the INEC stage as it’s her 32nd time in the spotlight with her beloved Killarney Musical Society.
Blessed with a beautiful voice, Orna has had a big part to play in every one of the annual shows since the society was relaunched with a rousing version of HMS Pinafore in 1986.
She has played the lead female role on several occasions and her great acting ability and stage presence has made her a real favourite with audiences down through the years.
Orna was nominated for the best actress award in the Association of Irish Musical Society’s Oscars for her role in Oklahoma in 2004 and she also played such demanding roles as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, Nancy in Oliver! and Alice in Titanic.

This year she will play Maria, the Duchess of Dene and family matriarch, in Me and my Girl which is a show she will be very familiar with as she played Sally when the society last staged that production in 1998.
Orna’s brother, Fergal, another accomplished singer and actor, has also been a star of the musical drama stage down through the years and their late parents, Pat and Martin Cleary, were also very involved.
Last night was the last dress rehearsal and sound check for the show which opens this Wednesday with further performance on Thursday and Friday.
