RATHMORE GAA Club chairman, Donal Murphy, has led tributes to the retiring Aidan O’Mahony and he thanked him for his great service to the club during his success-laden playing career.
“Throughout all his time with Kerry he has remained absolutely loyal to his club and he always brought the same drive and intensity to Rathmore games that were his hallmark in the inter-county scene,” he said.
“He and Tom O’Sullivan gave us some great days out, annexing four All-Irelands in the noughties and, in the company of Paul Murphy he won his fifth in 2014,” Mr Murphy said.
He said Aidan has been a superb leader on and off the pitch and he showed all younger players exactly what the green and gold jersey stands for.
“We wish himself and Denise all the best in the future and we hope to see him donning the red and white of Rathmore for a good while yet,” the chairman added.
Rathmore councillor Niall Kelleher has also thanked Aidan for his great service to Kerry football and congratulated him on his many successes with the team.
“Aidan has been a driving force in Kerry football for 13 years and he has demonstrated immense skill, strength and determination and on and off the field. Despite facing difficult injuries, he overcame the odds to get back out on the field,” Cllr Kelleher said.
“As a Rathmore man, I am extremely proud of Aidan’s achievements at both club and county level and look forward to his continued involvement in the sport and donning of the Rathmore colours,” he added.
