THE deaths have occurred of two respected businessmen who played very active roles in Killarney’s industrial development down through the years.
John Scott, formerly of Scott’s Tools, passed away last Saturday. He played a major role in developing the Upper Park Road tool manufacturing plant from the 1970s to the early 1990s.
Mr Scott, who lived in Caragh Lake in Killorglin, is survived by his wife, Moira, daughters Freya, Elizabeth and Linda, sons Michael, James and Johnny. He was predeceased by another son, Roy.
He is further survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Killarney on Saturday last with cremation in Cork on Sunday.

The death has also occurred of Horst Peter Bickel who was one of the senior management team at the Liebherr crane manufacturing plant in Fossa for many years.
He worked hard and successfully to promote and build the Liebherr brand worldwide and was one of the driving forces in the company’s rapid development in key overseas markets.
A native of Germany and an engineer by trade, Mr Bickel later set up the very successful Prodent and Promed medical and dental supplies group in Killorglin which has continued to grow at pace since 1985.
Mr Bickel is survived by his wife, Frankie, and son Jens.
