TWO Beaufort sisters, who are both outstanding young athletes, stole the show at the Munster Juvenile Track and Field Championships held at the Regional Sports Centre in Waterford.

Despite facing stiff opposition from throughout the province, Aoife and Fiona Doyle produced a string of super performances and returned home with a remarkable haul of medals.

Fiona won gold in the Under 15 girls’ 200m and the 800m as well as winning silver in the 80m hurdles, 250m hurdles and the high jump.

Her older sister Aoife, meanwhile, registered a terrific treble when she won gold in the Under 19 hammer, shot and discus.

The Doyle sisters are members of the Star of the Laune Athletic Club. Aoife will sit her Leaving Cert at Intermediate School in Killorglin next summer and Fiona has just completed first year at the same school. They were both honoured at the school’s annual sports awards ceremony this year.

They are the daughters of David and Anne Marie Doyle from Carnahone in Beaufort.
