Mum was the word for staff in a Kerry supermarket remained silent for a designated period of time to raise funds for a great cause.
Silence was golden in Keane’s Centra in Farranfore for the fundraiser organised by Brid O’Donnell.
She is the sister of the late John O’Donoghue who passed away from Motor Neurone Disease in Brisbane, Australia in May 2024and she was anxious to organise an event to raise funds for the charity.
The Voice 4 MND required the staff at Keane’s to remain silent while working in the store and for their efforts they generated €1,493 in sponsorship. People are asked to stay silent for a period of time of their choice and it gives them an understanding of how it feels to not be able to speak.
The charity has expressed its thanks to Peadar Keane and the staff for their cooperation.
Many people living with Motor Neurone Disease experience speech difficulty during their illness.
Voice 4 MND is the charity’s annual sponsored campaign to raise awareness of the experiences people have with speech difficulty.
