Funeral arrangements for well-known businessman

The late John Buckley

The funeral will take place in Killarney this Friday and Saturday of John Buckley, a well-known local businessman who passed away last Tuesday.

He will be remembered by a whole generation in the town for his involvement in Killarney Bakery which was a very popular port of call on High Street for many years.

Later John ventured into the auctioneering business with great success and he played a leading role in many community organisations and events.

He served as a director and chairman for 13 years with Killarney Race Company and he also had a strong involvement in Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.

Very politically astute, John was a member of the national executive of Fianna Fáil for several years and, indeed, former Taoiseach and party leader Bertie Ahern was among those to pay tribute to him following his passing.

“John was a true gentleman, always so helpful and kind. I always enjoyed working with him over the years,” Mr Ahern said.

Formerly of Caherbarnagh, Rathmore, John lived in Aghadoe, Killarney and he is survived by his wife Patricia, children Shane, Denise and Orla, daughter-in-law Brigid, son-in-law Peter and many other relatives and friends.

Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home this Friday from 5.00pm to 6.30pm, Requiem Mass will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday morning at 10.30am followed by private cremation.
