A peaceful protest to condemn the rocket attack on Kyiv, which resulted in the destruction of the Ohmadit Children’s Hospital, will be held this Wednesday afternoon in Tralee Town Square (12.30pm).
Organised by Ukrainians in Kerry, the event aims to remind the public that the war in Ukraine is still ongoing and that children are dying from rocket attacks on hospitals and residential buildings.
27 people, including 10 children, were killed in a Russian missile attack on Kyiv on Monday. The largest Ohmadit Children’s Hospital, part of a maternity hospital, and the entrance of a residential building, were destroyed.
Additionally, eight people were killed during the shelling of Kryvyi Rih.
Killarney resident Natalia Krasnekova, who contested he recent local elections, stressed that Ukraine urgently needs more air defence systems to protect children’s hospitals, residential buildings and power plants.
“Air defence is not only military aid – it is humanitarian aid. We demand that Russia be declared a terrorist state and its ambassador expelled from Ireland,” she said.
“Justice should prevail not only in words but also in actions,” Ms Krasnekova added.
She invited people to bring old children’s toys, posters and photographs of destroyed hospitals to the protest.
