The annual search for exceptional young people who have achieved something out of the ordinary or made a huge contribution to society is underway.
Lee Strand and An Garda Siochana have launched this year’s launch Youth Achievement Awards which are open to young people between the ages of 13 and 21 and they will recognise the great contribution young people have made and continue to make to their communities.
The awards will be presented at a celebratory dinner in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee on Friday, September 27.
This year 20 merit awards will be presented to individuals who have made a positive contribution to their community and make it a better place to live. A group award will also be presented to groups of two or more people who have made an impact to their community.
A special achievement award will be presented to an individual who has overcome difficult circumstances, has defied all the odds and whose commitment deserves recognition.

A community safety award will be presented to an individual who through crime prevention or a safety initiative/innovation has made their community a safer place to live while an overall winner will also be honoured.
Chief Superintendent Padraic Powell said the awards scheme is an excellent initiative to recognise the central role the country’s youth play in society’s future.
“It is important to recognise their excellence in the areas of charity, culture, arts, sports or caring for a friend or relative. The awards are a fantastic way for Gardaí to develop strong relationships with various groups and young people in the community we serve,” he said.
“This recognition and co-operation has a positive effect on society as a whole,” he added.
Gearoid Linnane, CEO, Lee Strand, said his company has been delighted to support the Kerry Garda Youth Achievement Awards since 1998.
“The awards provide a great opportunity to celebrate and recognise the achievements of the young people of Kerry, who have made a positive impact within their local community,” he stated
The closing date for receipt of nominations is Friday, May 31 and nominations are available from any Garda Station in Kerry or to download on www.leestrand.ie/garda-awards/.
