Two double headers expected to decide last four

David Clifford is expected to return to the starting line-up for East Kerry

Reigning champions East Kerry – chasing a fourth title in five years – will face another divisional side, St Kieran’s, in the quarter-final of this year’s Kerry Senior Football Championship.

After a successful campaign in the group stages, culminating with them sealing top spot with a victory over Templenoe in Killarney on Sunday, Jerry O’Sullivan’s finely-tuned charges will have a welcome break before the last eight outing with David and Paudie Clifford – virtually rested in the campaign this season to date apart from a brief cameo appearance on Sunday – expected to return to the starting line-up for the clash with the Castleisland District side.

Another huge attraction will be the local derby between Rathmore and Spa with both sides in great form this season and that is expected to be a sellout that will generate enormous interest.

That game will see Paul Murphy, Shane Ryan and co up against a Dan O’Donoghue and Evan Cronin inspired Spa and they will be more than familiar with each other having both formed part of the district board set-up in recent years.

Last year’s beaten finalists Mid Kerry will come up against Diarmuid O’Connor and Jack Barry’s Na Gaeil while Dingle – many people’s tip for the title – will be up against Tadhg Morley’s Templenoe.

The games will be played the weekend after next with a double header likely to be played on the Saturday and another on the Sunday
