Deerpark land to be used to develop site facilities

Cllr Maura Healy-Rae: Asked would land be used for houses

Land owned by Kerry County Council to the north of the busy bypass road will initially be used to develop accommodation for Traveller families and further enhance halting site facilities that are already in place.

The matter was raised by Cllr Maura Healy-Rae who asked officials for a detailed update on plans to develop council land at Deerpark and she what portion of it will be used to build houses?

Officials said the local authority owns 10 hecrates – over 25 acres – of land off the bypass and the area is the location of St Michael’s Halting Site and associated facilities.

Under the Traveller Capital Programme, the council has proposals for the complete redevelopment of the facilities on the site

“At present, the site will be used for that aspect of our housing programme. When precise plans have been finalised members will be briefed,” the council told Cllr Healy-Rae.
