
A critically acclaimed movie set in the Kerry Gaeltacht has been nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) and it is one of seven productions made for TG4 to be shortlisted.
Tarrac is an intimate character drama that tells the story of Aoife Ní Bhraoin who returns home to help her father, Breandán ‘The Bear’ Ó Braoin, recover after a heart attack.
Day to day they get along just fine but it soon emerges that there has been so much that has been left unsaid about the loss of Aoife’s mother.
Tarrac was already awarded best cinematography in an Irish film at the Galway Film Fleadh 2022.

Directed by Declan Recks, written by Eugene O’Brien and produced by Clíona Ní Bhuachalla, the cas tincludes Kelly Gough – who has been nominated for the best lead actress award – Lorcan Cranitch, Kate Nic Chonaonaigh, Kate Finegan, Rachel Feeney and Cillian Ó Gairbhí.
Meanwhile, Joyride, which was filmed in Kerry, has also been shortlisted for IFTA awards, with Tralee native Ailbhe Keogan nominated for best script and Emer Reynolds for best director.
The film, starring Oscar winner Olivia Colman, follows the story of a headstrong solicitor whose plan to offload her new born baby to her sister is derailed when a vulnerable but opinionated teenager steals their taxi.

Jessie Buckley from Killarney has been shortlisted in the best supporting actress category for he role in Women Talking while charts the experiences of women in an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith.
They come together to figure out how they might move forward together to build a better world for themselves and their children.
The IFTA awards are funded by Screen Ireland and supported by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Tourism Ireland. Over the past few months, Irish Academy members have been busy viewing, deliberating, and shortlisting the very best work from across great Irish films, dramas, performances, and craftsmanship.
Nominations have been shortlisted by members as well as specialist jury panels of industry experts from around the world.
The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony in Dublin on Sunday, May 7.
