Blazing a trail for Kerry soccer, Killarney Celtic have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious FAI Junior Cup and they are now just 90 minutes away from a place in the last four of the competition.

They registered a terrific victory away to fancied Dublin side Tallaght United in a game played at the VEC grounds in Terenure on Saturday and they were really on top of their game on their way to an impressive 3-0 victory.

Spot kick: Stephen McCarthy

Stephen McCarthy, from the penalty spot, and Lee Downing had Celtic 2-0 up at half-time and Wayne Sparling iced the cake after 75 minutes, much to the delight of the vocal Killarney supporters that made the journey to the capital or the big occasion.

Celtic will now play in the last eight on the weekend of March 4/5 with the draw to be made next Wednesday.

Also already through to the quarter-finals are Newmarket Celtic, Ballynanty Rovers and Galway side Colga FC.

Manager Neilus Hayes and his assistant Mikey Daly will be hoping their charged can advance to the last four which is a feat they haven’t achieved since losing out to Sheriff United in the semi-finals in 2017.
