
A TOTAL of 93 fines for littering were issued in Kerry last year compared to 114 in 2019 and 142 in 2018.
Statistics revealed by Kerry County Council show that 13 of last year’s fines were issued in Killarney, 44 in Tralee, 13 in both Listowel and Castleisland/Chorca Dhuibhne and 10 in the Kenmare municipal district.
Six people were prosecuted for littering last year compared to eight in 2019 and 22 in 2018 and of the six brought to court last year, five were in Tralee and one in Kenmare.
A total of 1,408 reports of illegal dumping of waste and littering were received by the local authority last year.

224 of the calls related to Killarney, 522 to Tralee, 204 to Kenmare, 181 to Listowel and 277 to Castleisland and Chorca Dhuibhne.
Five prosecutions were initiated last year for waste and although 20 complaints of unauthorised water collection were received, no prosecutions were brought.
21 fines were issued last year under beach bye-laws legislation compared to 10 in 2019 and nine the previous year. 12 of the fines were in the Castleisland/Chorca Dhuibhne municipal district with nine in Kenmare.
The information was supplied to Cllr Conor Foley who had asked for a breakdown of figures for the three-year period.
