Strains of ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘For he’s a jolly good fellow’ rang out on Killarney’s High Street on Monday night as locals gathered to celebrate the birthday of one of the town’s best loved and most colourful characters.
Friends and neighbours of Seamus ’Sham’ Courtney called to his favourite local pub, Jack C’s, to celebrate his 79th birthday.
Ian Looney of Jack C’s and Sham’s friends pulled out all the stops with a birthday cake, sandwiches, balloons and party hats for the special occasion and a wonderful celebration was enjoyed as Sham, a retired farmer from Loughquittane in Muckross, regaled them all with colourful stories and anecdotes.
With Sham are pals Loretto O’Leary, Tara Monaghan, Niamh Long, Lynn Coney, Ian Looney, Jack C’s Bar (back, centre) and Ossi Fritsche.
