Muckross House and Gardens, which this year celebrates six decades since its official opening to the public, is the jewel in the crown in Killarney’s tourism industry with over 100,000 people passing through the gates each year with an estimated 55,000 walking to Dinis and a further 50,000 climbing Cardiac Hill.

The hugely popular and informative Killarney National Park talks ran for six weeks and this year’s other speakers included Met Éireann’s Joanna Donnelly who talked about the weather and moth expert Stephen Cotter from Killarney who explored Kerry’s magnificent moths.

Other speakers included Danny O’Keeffe of the NPWS who examined the whole issue of rhododendron in Killarney National Park, William Corcoran who reported on fish life in the Lakes of Killarney and Conor Kelleher whose expert subject was bats.
