A PRIEST who served for many years in Killarney returned to the town at the weekend to celebrate a landmark birthday.
Fr Kevin McNamara, now parish priest in Moyvane, was based in St Mary’s Cathedral for several years until he was transferred, as curate, to Gneeveguilla and Knocknagree before taking over in the busy parish of Moyvane.
Fr McNamara, a passionate hurling fan and a native of Clare, celebrated his 60th birthday at the weekend and, to mark the occasion, several of his friends and former parishioners in Killarney attended a celebration dinner at the Killarney Oaks Hotel.
The popular priest is blessed with a talent for communicating with the masses and he has embarked on a number of colourful campaigns to help spread the word.
Earlier this year he seized on the 50 Shades of Grey fever sweeping the nation to get his own Lenten message across, erecting a giant banner in the church grounds “Whatever about the 50 shades — remember the 40 days.”
