THERE is a four cent difference in the cost of a litre of petrol and a three cent per litre variation on diesel prices at filling stations in the immediate vicinity of Killarney town, KillarneyToday.com can confirm.
A spot check at 10 premises on this Thursday confirmed that it pays to shop around for those intent on getting the best value for their euro when filling up on motor fuel.
Our latest on-the-spot inspection shows that the price of a litre of diesel varies between 127.9 and 131.9 – depending on where you shop – while the cheapest litre of petrol was 135.9 per litre with the dearest at 138.9.
With greater competition at the pumps in Killarney, there is clearly better value on offer for motorists prepared to shop around.
The cheapest rate for petrol (135.9) was on offer at four filling stations – Foley’s Inver in Fossa, Hegarty’s on Muckross Road, Circle K on Park Road and Texaco at the Cork Road Roundabout.
The best value price for diesel (127.9) was at the Amber station on the Muckross-Ross Road junction and Tesco Killarney Park.
The KillarneyToday.com Thursday spot check, conducted between 11.15am and 11.45am today, revealed that Sheahan’s Maxol on Muckross Road was the dearest for both petrol (138.9) and diesel (131.9).
Interestingly, while the price for both petrol (136.8) and diesel (128.8) was identical at two of the town’s three Applegreen filling stations, the third was 0.3 cent per litre cheaper for petrol but 0.7 cent per litre dearer for diesel.
Our consumer check prices featured here were displayed on the pumps or on the promotional signs in the fuel station forecourts.
It is also worth noting that the price for both petrol and diesel has dropped substantially since May of 2018 when the average cost of a litre of petrol at the 10 local filling stations surveyed was 144.7 with the average price for diesel at 134.3.
