THERE has been a sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 cases confirmed in Kerry today.
A further 28 cases have been diagnosed bringing the total number of people infected with the virus in the county to 117, which accounts for 2.1 per cent of the national total.
Nationally, there were 36 additional deaths reported today bringing the total number to 201. The patients included 17 females and 19 males, the median age of deaths was 81 and the mean age of deaths in Ireland was 79.
345 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed this Tuesday and that elevates the total number of people diagnosed to 5,709.
Of the latest fatalities, three were in the south and the median age of the victims is 81. Health authorities say 24 of the 36 people who have passed away were reported to have had underlying conditions.
A total of 1.388 healthcare workers throughout the country have been diagnosed with Covid-19. Community transmission accounts 67%, local transmission for 22% and travel related at 11%.
There are almost twice as many males as females dying as a result of contracting the coronavirus with 133 men and 77 women passing away.
