EXCITEMENT is mounting as 27 lovely local ladies are vying for the title of the 2016 Lily of Killarney who will be crowned at a gala reception this Friday night.
This is the 43rd year of the big event organised by the ladies’ committee of Spa GAA Club and the winner will be announced following a formal and informal interview process in the Gleneagle Hotel.
The first Lily was crowned at a fundraising Spa GAA carnival in 1974 and the event has grown in stature every year since then.
Last year’s winner, representing the Top of Coom, was Sarah Dineen and she will hand over her sash and the Healy-Cronin memorial trophy to her successor close to midnight on Friday.
A wonderful array of prizes will await the winner, including €500 in cash, a VIP trip to London, a new bicycle and several other gifts and hampers.
This media sponsor of this year’s event is Killarney Outlook and editor, Aisling Crosbie, will be on hand on Friday night to present the winning trophy along with Spa GAA Club officials.
