2,000 athletes take to the lakes and valleys

OVER 2,000 adventure aficionados, from all corners of the globe, descended on Killarney at the weekend for the annual Quest adventure race which saw the participants scaling mountains, cycling the roads and kayaking on Muckross Lake.

The world’s biggest adventure race, in its ninth year, continues to attract Ireland’s top endurance athletes and competitors from around the world and first home and clear of the group in the 83km Expert route was Shane Scully, in a time of four hours, nine minutes and 44 seconds.

In second place was Killian Heery (4.15:19) and in third was Barry Cronin (4.17:02). The first female home was Ellen Vitting in an excellent time of (4.43:38) ahead of Laura O’Driscoll (4.50:35) and Aine Mahony (5.11:56).
